The Robbins Center

The Robbins Speech, Language and Hearing Center, provides a supportive environment where we support clients and their families with a variety of communication disorders and differences. Since opening in 1953, the Robbins Center has provided evaluation and treatment for children and adults with communication problems as well as educational programs for family members and caregivers. The Center is also the primary clinical training facility associated with the nationally respected Emerson College Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Service Delivery

Evaluation and treatment services are provided by Masters-level graduate students in Emerson College’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and supervised by clinical faculty who are certified by ASHA and licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Services can be delivered in-person at the Robbins Center or remotely via tele-practice.

Client and Family-Centered Approaches

Impaired communication often causes self-consciousness, which may interfere with social interaction, academic performance, personal and professional development. Therefore, services are designed to provide a supportive environment for individuals to address the emotional and social effects of their communication challenges.

Each client is viewed within a family context and therefore family members and caregivers are welcome to observe and participate in the provision of services.

Fees

Fees for services are modest given the high level of care. Individual treatment currently costs $30 per session, groups are $20 per session, and an evaluation is $60 per hour. For persons unable to afford services, a payment plan or reduced fee schedule will be considered.
